If the butterflies that I felt in my stomach on the day Jon proposed to Jen were even 5% of what Jon must have felt, I’m so glad I’m not a guy =) It isn’t every day that I get the opportunity to photograph a real engagement (the last time, it was on a wintry night in February at MIT). It was so, so cool to be able to collaborate with a guy who is so deserving of all the success and happiness life has to offer him.
As a surprise to whisk her away from the pressures of business school, Jon planned a romantic getaway to the picturesque hills and wineries of Napa Valley, where they had their first date nearly three years ago. They would spend a whole day wine tasting. And at just the right moment at Artesa Vineyards & Winery, he would get down on one knee while against a painting-like vista of blue skies, rolling lush hills, next to a modern fountain. And I, posing as a tourist taking photos of her friend, would be there to catch it all.
The views around the vineyard say it all. It was incredible to be here
Jon brought Jen down to a smaller fountain, and I held my breath as the scene unfolded
Jen had absolutely no idea! After they called their parents and I introduced myself, we launched straight into an engagement session
I love Napa Valley. I could shoot here foreeeverr…
Also, isn’t Jen’s dress fabulous? I love this shot
I’ve known Jon since college. This was the first day I met Jen. However, knowing what a wonderful guy Jon is, I could instantly see the chemistry between these two kind, energetic, and well-traveled souls. Despite spending much of their relationship long distance, they remained loyal and dedicated. They have a shared hobby in playing this one particular online video game, and they love partaking together in outdoor activities. They’ve hiked across the Amazon and gone scuba diving in the Cayman Islands. Jen even followed Jon to grad school – they are both currently attending Harvard Business School together
They made this session so fun
Loving the light here
You’d think from these photos they’ve been used to being photographed… forever
We also got the opportunity to drive a bit and take wonderful photos at the inn where they were staying
So. SO cute
This photo is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dancing photos. Jon and Jen were so happy, they would just randomly break into dance. You can’t deny that the day someone says yes is a super happy day
Thank you Jon and Jen for a wonderful day, and I’m so happy for the two of you. Hope you enjoy this blog post over Thanksgiving! A major thank you to Pat for driving and helping out (he also snagged a last minute reservation to The French Laundry – what a friend!), and to Jamie for being my decoy friend!
