• Welcome to the website of wedding photographer Saavedra Photography My mission is to empower people through photography to love themselves and confidently see the beauty that I see in them.

Cheers to 2014! and… 2015 early bird specials

2014 was quite a different year! As I began observing the Jewish Shabbat from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, this meant a rehaul of my original, much grander visions for Saavedra Photography. When I was Shang Chen Photography, I could easily photograph over 20 weddings a year, and my business thrived. Once I decided not to work on Saturdays, weddings on a regular basis were no longer a reality.

After making the Shabbat decision, I re-branded to a new Facebook page (losing literally thousands of original ‘likes’) – when I should have just changed the name of my old one (huge lesson learned… I’m stubborn!). Nevertheless, I went through with the rebranding. I wanted “Saavedra Photography” to represent a newer focus – one that paid a lot of attention to the people and personalities, and being truly authentic in the process. Therefore, with every client I had, I spent even more time truly understanding them.

So, in 2014, I did not expect to have the privilege and honor of photographing so many of you. I wasn’t expecting to do anything to be honest! Therefore, I’m very, very happy to get to know those who are new, and reconnect with many of you that I’ve photographed before.

In 2014, I did several headshots, lifestyle and family sessions, one beautiful wedding… I continued to do several engagement and anniversary sessions all around NYC, a baby or two, and one new thing I’ve added was the ability to photograph marriage proposals as they happened. This has become one source of great joy and a great creative outlet for me. I enjoyed being your ‘ninja’ and getting into the detail of planning a once in a lifetime event for two people who are very much in love – and giving me the privilege to document that occurrence with authenticity.

In 2015, I would still love to fulfill my goal of photographing at least one wedding in the New York City / Tri-State area, so if you know of friends getting married on Sunday in this area, please do not hesitate to send them my way! In addition, I’d also love to do some more street-style fashion photography – perhaps in the form of in(SP)iration sessions, as it plays to my strengths in photographing in an urban environment and my love for fashion. As always, anyone who refers clients over gets referral goodies!

I’m so very thankful to all of you guys for being a pivotal part of Saavedra Photography’s beginnings. As always, I appreciate your continued support for being a part of this entrepreneurial journey. I don’t know where things will go, but I’m really proud of what 2014 has been. Happy tidings to all and best wishes for 2015! I am running an early bird special for 2015 photo sessions, check them out
