From a choral ensemble, to a live band, Marisa and Evan’s stylish and modern wedding was not short on the common thread that tied them both together: music. Marisa and Evan first met each other while they were at Yale and singing in the Schola Cantorum. After several “rounds” of dating and coy back and forth, they finally made it official. I’ve also been following their incredible honeymoon travels (they also had a second wedding in Thailand, where Marisa’s mother is from), and they are frequent flyer buffs. Fun factoid: Marisa and Evan became officially engaged on the date when their two favorite airlines – Continental and United – merged.
Given that their relationships started at Yale, it would only be fitting that they chose to have their wedding at the Marquand Chapel at the Divinity School and the New Haven Lawn Club. In one more stroke of serendipitous genius, Marisa and Evan got married on the same wedding date as both their parents AND the minister.
This getting ready was so incredible (which took place at the Omni New Haven Hotel Hotel) First, I’m a sucker for lace details on my brides’ dresses. It is so incredibly feminine, beautiful, and classy. I could photograph Marisa forever and ever – which is why I like having some time during getting ready for the bride’s portraits
Marisa – GORGEOUS. The light in this room was just perfect
All of the bridesmaids wore dresses with these super fun petticoats!
The details for this wedding are both colorful and modern – my favorite. Marisa’s bouquet was made of concentric circles of flowers in hues of purple and dark red, I thought that the star-shaped details were very unique. Handmade hair flowers adorned all the bridesmaids, and a matching flower was pinned on Marisa’s mother’s dress. Evan – as you will see – wore a kilt, which includes a serious knife
Evan looked equally dashing in his kilt. Image on the left by Karman
We went to the quad at Marquand Chapel for all the portraits. There were so many walkways and architectural elements to play with. This is the bride’s side – Marisa included two bridespeople. I love mixed wedding parties!
Left – handmade flower pin with feathers adorning a groomsperson. Right, bridesmaid’s bouquet
Oh yes, all the groomsmen wore kilts!
They are a very fun bunch
Epic walking shot!
You can’t tell in these photos just how hot it was day. Marisa and Evan stayed cool and relaxed throughout. A little breeze helped
They are a classy couple, no doubt
The Marquand Chapel has these tall windows that let in lots of light
Their many friends who were part of the Schola Cantorum were there and provided much of the music in the ceremony
Marisa’s sisters were emotional all day – I would be too!
The New Haven Lawn Club is a gorgeous venue and their coordinators are amazing to work with! The crystal chandeliers truly add a very unique touch to this place. My second shooter Karman caught these while I was covering the people at the cocktail hour
We snuck in another 10 minutes of portraits
Checking Facebook =)
The live band kept the dance floor hopping all night long – everyone danced! I really love it when everyone gets involved on the dance floor and make it a happy party for the bride and groom
Thank you Marisa and Evan (and Marisa’s sister, Rachel, who I photographed for a Harvard fashion show, for making the initial recommendation!) for giving me the honor to document your amazing day. May your travels continue to be smooth, adventurous, and fun, just like you!
