Imagine the scene – gentle waves lapping at bronzed rocks, a cool breeze through linen curtains, original hardwood floors softly creaking with anticipation… that’s the Ocean View Inn in Gloucester, where the wedding of Mengmeng and Shawn took place. Their wedding was laid-back, colorful, playful, and even with a rained-out ceremony, went off without much of a hitch. Also, this wedding uses some of my favorite wedding flowers ever – peonies!
Carolina and her awesome staff at From Hair to Eternity came in to do hair and makeup in this beautiful naturally lit room upstairs at the inn
Mengmeng chose a dress that was PERFECT for her. I don’t have much room on this blog for the dress shot, but the individual appliqued flowers, the bow, the floaty layers of fabric were perfect
Shawn got ready next door. It is situations like these where I can quickly pop over for some portraits of the men as well
This was Mengmeng walking up for the First Look. I gasped at how beautiful she looked
They poked each other
They wanted – and got – their wedding by the ocean. Gloucester is beautiful!
Mengmeng and Shawn gave me plenty of time for portraits, we got so many beautiful locations to play with
We were at the end of peonies season. I really like the pop of dark red in the pink peonies. And her dress! And the pink shoes!
Portraits on the wedding day felt so relaxed and comfortable with these two after our engagement session earlier this year.
This is especially true for Shawn, who is so shy that I think he probably says one word for every 50 that I say (I am a motor mouth)
The wedding party joins us on the rocks
When I was previewing this photo, one of the wedding guests said, “Shawn looks so GQ!”
We quickly started the ceremony – the clouds started moving in
We were all really touched when Shawn got emotional while reading his vows. Mengmeng on the other hand powered through hers
Rain really started to threaten to fall in buckets so we paused the ceremony to go inside
No one missed a beat. The ceremony was still filled with laughter and love – you can see it in the faces of their parents
Mengmeng and Shawn had a beautiful ballroom number for their first dance
I took Mengmeng out for a few more portraits. Yes oh do I love that bouquet
Each table was named after a park that Mengmeng and Shawn had traveled to – I love that their escort cards indicate the guest’s meal choice. Inside the favor boxes were fun rings that lit up
This particular wedding guest seems very mesmerized by the favor..
They played 2 games. The shoe game.. (instead of shoes, the flowers stood for Mengmeng, the football for Shawn)
Their friend who has the fun moniker Matty Beats DJed the night. Bottom right – that’s me with Karen, who referred Mengmeng and Shawn to me. (check out Karen and Bryan’s MIT wedding here)
Thank you Mengmeng and Shawn for throwing such a fun wedding and for always laughing and going with the flow
